When we say the word “change,” we think of many different things. We can change jobs, change clothes, change addresses, change hairstyles. There aren’t many things that are permanent. Of course tattoos, scars, family, past experiences and God’s presence are a few things that are permanent. Every single thing that changes has one thing in common; changes always takes a process.
The King’s Daughters Ministry has taught me a lot about change. Looking back 10 months ago, I see an insecure, paranoid, hopeless girl who was afraid of the world. While suffering with P.T.S.D. from abuse, battling anxiety, relying on drugs and practically homeless, God still had a plan for me.
God placed a volunteer from the Penny Thrift/The King’s Daughters Ministry an hour and a half away in my dad’s shop at the right time. They told him of The King’s Daughters Ministry and gave him a brochure that he brought home to me that night. I ended up applying for the program and after the interviewing process, got accepted. I had no idea what was in store for my future.
After ten months of counseling, biblically-based classes, job preparation, volunteering, working out at the gym, and all of the support I have received, I am far from the girl I used to be. I feel like I am now able to call myself a woman. I know that God is not near being finished with me. He still has a lot of sculpting to do. This program has broadened the word change completely for me. Not only can seasons change, but God can help people to change also. He can take someone who was so hurt and afraid of the world and give them hope again.
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:19 is a perfect example of how powerful and life changing God is. He can take something empty, lifeless and without hope and completely transform it to fulfill His will. I believe that is what God has done in my life. He used my brokenness, abuse, addiction and sins to lead me to a place where I had nowhere else to run besides Him.
