Passing the Torch: A Legacy of Faith, Family & Generational Impact
The King’s Daughters Ministry Announces Intentional Leadership Succession

STANLEY, NC — September 15, 2026 — After more than 15 years of serving in business, ministry, and leadership, Misty Dorsey has been named Assistant Director of The King’s Daughters Ministry (KDM), marking the beginning of an intentional three-year leadership transition for the ministry founded by her mother, Sheryl Dorsey, in 2011.
This is more than a new position. It is the beginning of a new chapter in the story God has been writing through The King’s Daughters Ministry for more than a decade.
The KDM Board of Directors has entrusted Misty with the role of Assistant Director, where she will work closely alongside her mother over the next three years, receiving hands-on training, mentoring, and leadership development in preparation for eventually assuming the role of Executive Director.

For Sheryl Dorsey, who founded KDM with a passion to provide a safe and loving environment where hurting women and their children can experience spiritual growth, emotional healing, and practical education, the transition is both deeply personal and profoundly meaningful.
“I am thrilled—not simply because my daughter is joining me in leadership, but because I see this as an answer to prayer and an opportunity to intentionally pass on what God has entrusted to me,” Sheryl said. “Misty is not simply stepping into a position. She is stepping into a ministry legacy.”
Misty brings more than 15 years of professional experience in industrial operations, business development, financial reporting, leadership, mentoring, and ministry. Her professional background includes managing operations, coordinating teams, developing business opportunities, supporting financial management, and mentoring others. She also previously served KDM as Store General Manager and Administrative Support, where she managed daily operations at Penny Thrift, prepared financial reports, coordinated volunteers and community events, and supported ministry administration.
In her new role, Misty will assist with the daily operations of the ministry, staff and programs, donor cultivation and fundraising, budgeting and financial management, long-range planning, volunteer and Board communication, and public representation of KDM.
But perhaps most importantly, Misty will be learning the heart behind the ministry.
“My greatest desire is not simply to learn how to run an organization, but to learn how to faithfully steward what God has entrusted to KDM,” Misty said. “I am honored to serve alongside my mom and grateful for the opportunity to help carry this ministry into its next season.”
The three-year transition is designed to be deliberate and intentional. Rather than simply transferring a title, KDM is investing in the transfer of knowledge, relationships, ministry culture, leadership experience, and vision.
This is what “Transforming Lives…Shaping Generations” looks like in action.
For 15 years, The King’s Daughters Ministry has walked alongside women and children experiencing crisis, providing Christ-centered support, counseling, education, housing, mentorship, and practical resources. Now, the ministry is preparing not only for the future of its leadership, but for the future of its mission.
There is something especially meaningful about a ministry founded by a mother and intentionally prepared to be carried forward by a daughter.
The torch is being passed—but the mission remains the same.
As KDM enters this new season, Sheryl will continue to serve and provide leadership during the three-year transition while intentionally mentoring Misty and preparing her for the responsibilities of Executive Director.
What began in 2011 as a calling to serve hurting women and children is becoming a legacy that reaches beyond one generation.
Transforming Lives…Shaping Generations.
And by God’s grace, the story continues.
